Portland
Donuts, donuts, and more donuts? Portland owns all three of the best donuts I have had in my life, and they were fantastic. But do not let the amazing donuts in Rip City let you overlook the rest of the amazing spots in Portland. From Asian cuisine to pizza, Portland has you covered, and I definitely hope you can enjoy all the stellar grub in Rip City. So, without further ado, enjoy!
Thai

Nong’s is an iconic Thai restaurant that serves amazing food, and the highlight is the sauce! Nong’s sauce on their Khao Man Gai is ridiculous. I needed four servings of the sauce because I was practically drinking it. There are not many sauces you would want to drink straight, but Nong’s makes one of those sauces. The chicken and rice are also amazing, but my oh, the sauce will blow you away, and it accompanies the chicken and rice perfectly.

If you are craving pizza in Portland, then look no further. Seriously if I could physically stop you from ordering pizza from any rival pizzeria, I would. Dove Vivi was damn delicious. The sausage and peppers pizza is definitely the way to go here; while the pepperoni looked fantastic, it is the homemade sausage, caramelized onions, and perfect combination of peppers, sauce, and cheese that make a pie definitely worth going out of your way to snag. While there were other good pizzas in Portland and many other great restaurants, Dove Vivi stands out as a pizza that is just great. I must also comment that the crust was one of the best crusts I have had on a pizza.

Here it is, the beginning of the pride and joy of Portland. The doughnuts. I was ready for amazing doughnuts in this city, and when I had Voodoo, I thought I hit the peak. But then, two days later, I strolled into Blue Star and had my mind blown. Unfortunately, when we arrived, the Bergamot was sold out, which is apparently their best and most famous doughnut. After having the blueberry bourbon basil, I cannot imagine how much better that Bergamot doughnut might be. So, when you go, please have both and let me know how much I am missing out and how badly I need to revisit Portland for the Bergamot doughnut specifically. The lemon poppy seed, which was seasonal when we went, was my second favorite and was my second favorite doughnut I have ever had. But if you want to verbally yell, “WOW!” When eating a doughnut and having a stranger on the other side of the road look over and laugh as you gorge yourself on a Blueberry doughnut, go to Blue Star.

The second-best doughnut shop I have ever been to, and shortly I will discuss the third, was Pip’s. These doughnuts are small, hot, and fantastic discs of joy. The bacon jam doughnut was easily the most unique doughnut I had encountered, and it was extremely good. While my personal favorite was the honey, they had many options that were all fantastic. Those small discs are much heartier than I anticipated, so expect to be pretty full if you look to have a dozen of them like I did. Pip’s is a fantastic doughnut joint, and when in Portland, you must have the doughnuts.

Baby Doll Pizza is the second-best pizza to snag in Portland, and it is absolutely fantastic. The pepperoni pizza here is extremely good, and it is a great slice of pizza. The pizza is not up to par with Dove Vivi, but it is definitely worth stopping in for a high-quality pie. There is a bar attached to Baby Doll that has some good beer on tap, but I would just stop in for the pizza, snag a beer, and then head to the next pizza place on my rankings to enjoy a delicious day of pizza.

The touristy doughnut shop finally appears on the list for Portland. Voodoo is an iconic joint that has so many weird and unique options that it is a must-stop. While it is definitely touristy, it is for a good reason. It stands as the third-best doughnut shop I have ever been to, and that means a lot. The best doughnut on the menu was easily the Old Dirty Bastard in my opinion. While I recommend trying as many of the flavors you think you can muster down, the Old Dirty Bastard needs to be one of them, as that was a delicacy, and oh my, it might give you diabetes from a single bite, but it is worth it.

Guero is right near Dove Vivi, so if you are in the area and want some amazing Tortas after having the pizza, which is exactly what I did, Guero is the spot for you. The tortas at Guero are definitely what you want to order, and the orange sauce that comes with the Tortas is SO good. It is not one of those drinkable sauces, that is a special tier, but it is certainly one of the best sauces I have enjoyed. I recommend smothering your Torta in the sauce. It will only make the Torta THAT much better.
Sports Bar/Smoked BBQ Pork Sandwich

Satellite Tavern makes some really tasty “samwiches”. And my favorite was easily the Smoked BBQ Pork Sandwich. The bar is a nice lowkey bar with a great array of beer on tap, but the Smoked BBQ Pork Sandwich is why I would want to come back to the Satellite Tavern. The sandwich was damn good, and while it was not elite by any means, it is definitely worth a stop if you want some good beer and a baller sandwich to go with it.

Having a pizza a day may not keep the doctor away, but it is always a good day. I had Baby Doll and Scottie’s back-to-back, and it was quite glorious. Scottie’s makes a great pie, which will not blow your socks off, but it certainly will not disappoint either. The number one is what I snagged from Scottie’s, and it was quite good; I definitely recommend ordering the number one. I have no shame in saying Scottie’s makes a quality pie. If you have already had Dove Vivi and Baby Doll, then coming to Scottie’s will certainly help keep the pizza deliciousness rolling.
